The Todd County Central Lady Rebels have now equaled their best start in the last 10 seasons. The Lady Rebels overcame some fatigue issues from playing their fourth game in six nights and picked up a 54-42 win over the Clinton County Lady Bulldogs in the State Farm 4th Region Challenge at Bowling Green High School.
The Lady Rebels returned late Friday night from a trip to McLean County and appeared heavy-legged at time playing less than 24 hours in Bowling Green. Still, the Lady Rebels found the energy to get their fourth straight win to open the season.
Both teams struggled offensively early. The Lady Rebels would hold a 9-5 lead after the first eight minutes. Led by the play of Jamya Kay, Todd Central went on a 7-0 run early in the second quarter to run the lead out to 19-7, and it appeared like the Lady Rebels were about ready to run off and hide. The lead would be 23-16 at the break.
As the second half began, Clinton County’s Landree Moons helped ignite a run to get the Lady Bulldogs back in the game. Clinton County would trim cut the lead to one at 30-29. The Lady Rebels found the strength to crank up their defensive pressure and went on a 9-0 run to end the quarter at 39-29.
A Jamya Kay three to open the final quarter completed a 12-0 run and effectively put Clinton County out of the game.
Kay had a big game for the Lady Rebels with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Alexis Taylor finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Abby Williams also hit double-figures with 10 points.
Landree Williams was the leading scorer for Clinton County with 18 points. Ashton Daniels added 10 for the Lady Bulldogs.
Todd Central goes to 4-0 on the year. The Lady Rebels are back in action Monday night when they host Butler County.
