Three-point shooting can significantly impact the outcome of a high school basketball game. And that is just what happened to the Hoptown Lady Tigers as they traveled to Webster County Monday night. The Lady Trojans knocked down five threes in the final quarter of regulation, to come from behind and send the game to overtime, where they knocked down two more from behind the arc on the way to a 54-53 win in Dixon.

Webster County hit 14 threes for the night, none bigger than the one Jaycie Wright hit with nine seconds left in regulation that forced the extra period.

The Webster barrage overcame a big night from Shiyah Forte, who scored 23 points to lead the Lady Tigers, including 19 in the second half and overtime.

The game had been a back-and-forth battle most of the night. Hopkinsville led 12-9 after the first quarter. Webster’s defense limited the Lady Tigers to just two field goals in the second quarter as the Lady Trojans battled back to take a 17-16 halftime lead.

Coming out of the break, Shiyah Forte scored 8 points in the third quarter as Hopkinsville moved back out to the lead at 29-26 after three.

If not for Webster getting hot from behind the line in the fourth, the Lady Tigers would have left Dixon with the win. However, let by Katelyn Cates, who connected for three, the Lady Trojans buried five threes over the final eight minutes to get the game into overtime.

In the extra period, Hannah Yates knocked down two threes and the Lady Trojans hit three of four at the free throw line, while the Lady Tigers hit two of four, as Webster County pulled out the one-point win.

In addition to Shiyah Forte’s 23 points, Kahtahvia Fleming and Faith Dansbury had 11 points each for Hoptown.

Katelyn Cates led Webster with 19 points, including six 3-pointers. Hannah Yates added 15 points, all in the second half and all coming on five 3-pointers.

Hoptown drops to 0-3 with the loss. The Lady Tigers return home Thursday to take on Clarksville Northeast.
