Madisonville Rolls to Win Over Lady Wildcats

The Trigg County Lady Wildcats had never beaten Madisonville-North Hopkins on its home floor coming into Monday, and the Lady Maroons made sure early the streak wouldn’t end.

Madisonville scored the game’s first 11 points and shot 54-percent from the field on its way to a 70-33 win over the Lady Wildcats.

The Lady Maroons hit 11 of 14 shots in the first quarter, using its press to turn Trigg over five times and score nine points.

Trigg’s first field goal came at the 2:25 mark and cut the deficit to 17-4. Destiny Whitsell scored 11 of her team-high 19 points in the opening quarter as Madisonville jumped out to a 25-10 advantage.

The scoring slowed in the second quarter except for Whitsell, who scored five of Madisonville’s 15 points. She finished with 19 points and six rebounds.

While Madisonville’s press didn’t have the same effect in the second quarter, their inability to hit shots kept them from cutting into the lead. Trigg was 2 of 11 from the field in the second quarter and 5 of 23 in the half.

Madisonville upped its lead to as many as 38 points at 54-16 which triggered a running clock.

The Lady Maroons hit 26-of-48 shots (54%) and were 4-of-7 behind the arc in the second half.

Emilee Hallum hit 4-of-6 from 3-point range and finished with 14 points. Riley Sword also scored 14 points and added six assists.

Trigg County made six 3-pointers and five shots inside the arc, shooting just 26-percent from the field.

Olivia Noffsinger scored 20 points and had three steals. Kara Hyde added five points and six rebounds.

Trigg County’s two-game winning streak was snapped and the Lady Wildcats fell to 2-2. They will play their fifth straight road game to start the season Tuesday at Kenwood in Clarksville in the first-ever meeting between the schools.

Madisonville, who improved to 24-2 all-time against Trigg County and 11-0 on its home floor, will host Christian County Tuesday.
