With Kentucky looking for a new offensive coordinator, who will call the offense when the Cats play Iowa in the Music City Bowl Dec. 31?

The last time Kentucky went into a bowl game without an offensive coordinator was two years ago after Eddie Gran was not rehired and before Liam Coen arrived on campus. Associate coach/tight ends coach Vince Marrow ran the offense and UK won the bowl game.

Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said Monday he did not want to comment just yet on who would be calling the offense against Iowa in Nashville?

“We’ll work through that. It’ll be a group effort. Obviously, you got Woody up there, (receivers coach) Scott Woodward, you got Vince, who’s done it before, will be a big part of the leadership of that,” Stoops said.

“But Woody has been a quarterback, been a receiver guy, so he’ll help a lot.”

Woodward is also a coach that Kentucky players really seem to like. He was the lead recruiter on Nashville receiver Shamar Porter, one of UK’s top recruits in the 2023 class.

Stoops also noted that analyst Josh Estes-Waugh likely will be on the “active” coaching list for the bowl game.

“Been with me for a long, long time, and is overqualified for the position that he’s in right now, and ready to be a quarterback coach and a play-caller and things of that nature somewhere. So we’re fortunate to have him,” Stoops said.

He also noted that former UK quarterback/Lexington Catholic coach Mark Perry, another analyst, has “great experience” and has been a “valuable” staff member.

“He’s been active this past week with recruiting and being able to go to state championship games and connecting with state recruits and all that. Mark is good to have active right now and be able to hit the pavement, he knows so many people in Kentucky,” Stoops said.

“We have a plan to get to, I want to say, 60 or 70 schools in the state.  We already had that on the books and Mark has already been out and we’ve been out.  So, I have some quality guys here.”

  1. Why don’t Stoops call the plays? He says he oversees it all anyway. Earn that 9 million Coach. Let’s see what you can do Maybe even get Levis’ help with them. I would pay to see that.
