Kentucky figured to go into the transfer portal looking for help in the offensive line and landed a commitment from a former Kentucky high school standout.

Alabama redshirt junior Tanner Bowles of Glasgow announced on Kentucky Sports Radio Thursday that he was transferring to Kentucky after recently entering the transfer portal.

The 6-5, 290-pound Bowles had over 40 scholarship offers before picking Alabama over Florida State, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, Louisville, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Stanford and almost every other SEC school

He was ranked as one the top offensive guards in the 2019 recruiting class  and was a four-star prospect in the ESPN and 247Sports rankings. 247Sports had him as the No. 186 player nationally and the 10th-rated offensive guard in the nation. He was the 222nd-rated player on the ESPN300.

Bowles has not started a game in his four seasons at Alabama and was the team’s third-string center and backup guard in 2022. He has played in 18 games, including all 12 in 2022. He has played 74 offensive snaps, including 53 as a run blocker.

He also saw extensive time on special teams and against Texas, Arkansas, Texas A&M, LSU, Mississippi and Auburn played only special teams.
