
On December 9, 2021, the Mayfield basketball team defeated Fort Campbell in its season opener at the Mayfield Sports Arena. In the days that followed, the gym served as a command post and collection point for supplies for Mayfield residents who were the victim of a colossal tornado that ripped through the town.
Mayfield’s basketball season was put on hold for nearly two weeks as the school and community worked to rebuild. Payton Croft has witnessed the resiliency of his team as well as Mayfield’s athletes and basketball in the year since the devastating tornado. It makes him proud as a coach, a teacher, and a Mayfield resident.
