It was a knock-down, drag-out affair one would expect from a meeting between the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers and Christian County Lady Colonels on the hardwood.

60 fouls, 83 free throws. Six players fouled out. A nearly two-hour game.

When the dust settled, Christian County notched its first win of the season with a 72-60 win over the Lady Tigers Saturday at Tiger Gym.

The physical play made it hard for either team to get into a flow although the Lady Colonels were able to build a 34-25 lead by halftime.

Midway through the third quarter, Makaya Payton and Kahtahvia Fleming hit back-to-back 3-pointers and a steal and bucket by Payton tied the game at 45 with 2:18 left in the third quarter.

A pair of Lady Colonel steals led to buckets for Anaysia Bagwell and keyed a 10-0 run to end the quarter.

Faith Dansbury drilled a 3-pointer to begin the fourth quarter but the seven-point deficit would be as close as Hoptown would get.

Christian County hit 9-of-21 free throws in the final quarter to keep Hoptown at bay as the Lady Tigers managed only four field goals in the final eight minutes.

Hopkinsville was whistled for 37 fouls in the game, leading to five Lady Tigers fouling out. Christian County hit 32-of-56 free throws in the game. They were 18-of-56 from the field.

Bagwell (11-of-16) and Evanna McGregor (13-of-19) paced the Lady Colonels at the charity stripe.

Hopkinsville shot 37-percent from the field and hit six 3-pointers. They outrebounded the Lady Colonels 42-35 but hit shot just 14-of-27 at the free throw line.

Bagwell led all scorers with 27 points. McGregor added 18 points and six rebounds.

Dansbury paced three Lady Tigers in double figures with 14 points. Makaya Payton and Kahtahvia Fleming both scored 12 points with Fleming adding 10 rebounds.

Hopkinsville was playing without leading scorer Shiyah Forte (13 ppg., 9 rebs) who was injured in Thursday’s win over Clarksville Northeast.

Christian County plays at Bowling Green Tuesday, while Hopkinsville hosts Caldwell County.

The district rivals will meet again on January 14 at Lyle Dunbar Gymnasium.
