The chances of a Trigg County Lady Wildcat win appeared bleak Tuesday in its district contest with Lyon County.

Leading scorer Olivia Noffsinger fouled out with 2:19 left and the Lady Wildcats were down 49-41.

But the tide quickly turned.

Audrey Alexander’s bucket made the score 49-43 and Lyon turned the ball over on its next four possessions. Alexander and Evonna McGee hit consecutive 3-pointers to tie the game at 49 with 36 seconds left.

Trigg got the ball back after another Lyon turnover and Landi Rogers hit two free throws with 12 seconds left to cap the 10-0 Trigg County run.

Lyon County’s only field goal attempt in the final 2:50 was a 3-pointer that landed short as the clock ran out.

Trigg’s lead in the final 12 seconds was its first since the final minute of the first quarter. The teams exchanged the lead three times in the first eight minutes.

Courtney Collins keyed a 14-3 Lyon run to begin the second quarter with seven points. Lyon’s biggest lead of the half was 10 points with 3:43 left.

The Lady Lyons held a six-point lead at halftime and after three quarters. However, eight turnovers in the final quarter led to 11 Trigg points and decided the game.

Collins led all scorers with 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Trinity Taylor added eight points and four rebounds for the Lady Lyons.

Noffsinger scored 16 points and Kara Hyde added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Alexander’s 10 points off the bench came with four steals.

Trigg County shot just 27-percent from the field but hit 5-of-15 threes in the second half.

Lyon County outrebounded Trigg 38-27 but had 24 turnovers that led to 22 Trigg points.

The Lady Lyons shot 41-percent from the field but missed six of its seven 3-point attempts.

Seven of the last eight meetings between Trigg and Lyon have been decided by single digits.

Trigg County will host Crittenden County Friday, while Lyon County hosts Hopkins County Central Thursday.
