Nicholas County Turns Back Lady Lyons 51-46

A second straight tough loss Thursday for the Lyon County Lady Lyons in the Kelly Holiday Classic at Bourbon County High School. The Lady Lyons rallied to take a 4th quarter lead but could not hold on as they fell to Nicholas County 51-46 in the 3rd place game of the event.

The Lady Lyons led early in the game, holding a 10-9 lead after the first eight minutes. Ella Defew connected twice from behind the 3-point line in the opening quarter.

Nicholas County found its offensive footing in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Lyons 18-11 to take a 27-21 lead into the half.

Lyon County battled back in the third quarter and by quarter’s end had trimmed the Nicholas County lead to just one at 36-35.

The Lady Lyons would go in front in the final quarter but could not shots to fall when they were trying to put some distance between themselves and the Lady Jackets. Nicholas County knocked down eight free throws in the final quarter to help secure the five-point win.

Ella Defew was the only Lady Lyon to hit double-figures with 12 points. She also had seven rebounds on the afternoon. Lilly Perry added 9 points and 5 steals for Lyon County.

Meghan Harmon was the top scorer for Nicholas County with 14 points. Jada Cleaver was right behind her with 13.

Lyon County drops to 3-8 with the loss. The Lady Lyons will open the new year Tuesday night with a trip to Ohio County.
