2nd Quarter Dry Spell Costs Lady Tigers in Loss at Madisonville

One bad quarter turned out to be the story of the afternoon Saturday for the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers. Madisonville-North Hopkins took control of the game in the second quarter and held on for a 63-51 win on the Lady Maroons’ home floor.

The game was tight early. After one quarter, Madisonville held a 13-8 lead. In the second, the Lady Tigers were held to five points as the Lady Maroons extended the lead out to 32-13 at the half.

Led by a big third quarter performance from Shiyah Forte, Hopkinsville would put up 25 points and cut the lead to 48-38 going into the final quarter.

The Lady Maroons would fend off the rally and hold on for the 12-point win. Hopkinsville did miss out on some opportunities to get even closer in the final quarter. The Lady Tigers missed seven free throws over the final eight minutes.

Shiyah Forte had a big afternoon for the Lady Tigers with 20 points. Kahtavia Fleming added 13, while Taria Sharber also hit double-figures with 10.

The Lady Maroons’ Emilee Hollum led all scorers in the game with 21 points. Destiny Whitsell and Riley Sword added 13 each for the Lady Maroons.

Hopkinsville falls to 2-7 with the loss. The Lady Tigers are back in action Monday evening when they travel to Daviess County.
