Wildcats Blister Second Half Nets for Road Win at Logan County

It was rough. It was chippy. It was on the road. And it was exactly the kind of game Trigg County needed as it prepares for the second half of the basketball season.

The Wildcats shot 64-percent from the field in the second half to claim a 77=64 win at Logan County Saturday. It was Trigg’s first win on the Cougars’ home floor in 20 years.

Trigg had seen a 10-point first quarter lead whittled to 29-28 by halftime. A Kade Wall bucket to start the third quarter gave Logan County its first lead since the first few minutes of the contest.

Jhaden Vaughn and Jerimyah Shearer combined to score Trigg’s first 19 points of the second half. Shearer knocked down three triples and a more aggressive Vaughn made four free throws and had a steal and dunk that put Trigg up 48-42 with 2:44 left in the quarter.

After a small dust up that saw words exchanged between a Trigg and Logan player and the ejection of a Trigg fan, the Wildcats responded with a 3-pointer by Hunter Reynolds that extended the Wildcat lead to 51-42. Logan County would get no closer than five points the rest of the day.

It was quite a day for Reynolds, who spent the morning in the hospital after a duck hunting episode early in the morning saw him go into hypothermic shock. He was discharged and cleared to play. He turned out to be a key figure for the Wildcats, scoring nine of his 12 points in the second half.

While Trigg’s guards came up big in the second half, it was Luke Washer who carried the flag for the Wildcats in the first half. He scored 15 of his game-high 21 points in the first eight minutes. He also grabbed 12 rebounds as the Wildcats owned the glass 39-21.
Vaughn scored 19 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and handed out six assists. Shearer added 15 points and six rebounds.

Colby Collins gave Logan County a boost off the bench with five 3-pointers and 16 points. Wall and Jack Delaney each scored 12 for the Cougars who dropped their fifth straight game.

Trigg County returns home Tuesday to play Webster County.
