Caldwell County had taken six straight games from its border rival to the north and 15 of the last 16 meetings.

But Crittenden County turned the tables Tuesday night in the quarterfinal round of the 2nd Region All A Classic.

The Rockets led virtually all the way while claiming a 63-44 decision in Princeton and advancing to Friday semifinals — also at Caldwell County.

Crittenden next faces University Heights Academy, which upset Lyon County 74-64 Tuesday night in Hopkinsville. That will be the late semifinal game. The opener on Friday at 6:00 has Dawson Springs facing Heritage Christian Academy of Hopkinsville. Both of those games, along with Saturday’s 7 p.m. championship, will be played at the CAB gym in Princeton.

Caldwell (3-10) led only once on Tuesday, at 2-0.

Crittenden (7-8) scored the next seven points and never trailed again.

The Tigers were within 17-13 early in the second quarter. However, Preston Morgeson buried three 3-pointers as the Rockets finished the half with a 15-3 run.

That put the visitors up 32-16 at the break.

Morgeson and Jaxon Hatfield had 3-pointers early in the second half to make it 38-16, and Crittenden was well on its way to the next round.

The Rockets led 49-25 through three quarters.

Morgeson finished the night with five 3-pointers and 26 points. Travis Champion added 18 points and eight rebounds. Hatfield had eight points.

Caldwell, which was missing two starters, got 15 points and eight rebounds from Zavy Bumphus. Whittington tallied nine points.

Crittenden held a 37-25 advantage on the glass.

Caldwell is off until next Tuesday when it hosts Marshall County.
