Coen avoided a lot of contact with quarterback Will Levis last season to not create a conflict with what UK coaches were doing.

He was busy with his duties as offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams but Liam Coen managed to keep up with Kentucky football last season.

Coen was UK’s offensive coordinator in 2021 when the Cats went 10-3 before he returned to the LA Rams. Now he’s coming back to UK after Rich Scangarello’s one season leading the Wildcats.

“More so the results and just seeing the scores,” Coen said on “BBN Tonight” on WLEX-TV about following the Cats last year.

He said he would wish “the guys luck” or reach out to coach Mark Stoops and others after “tough losses.”

What about quarterback Will Levis, the player Coen helped turn into a national star in 2021?

“I tried to stay off Will,” Coen said. “I offered support but wanted to make sure I was out of the picture so I could allow for growth (with Scangarello) to naturally happen.”

However, Coen obviously saw enough to know the offense struggled at times.

“Improvement needs to be made. We are all part of it and that’s why the standard did fall short,” Coen said. “I am part of it and need to come in and fix it.”

How can you not love that attitude?

  1. Seems our OL recruiting has lagged other positions.
Would assume Coen will greatly enhance our non existent QB recruiting.
