Lady Rockets Slam the Door on Livingston in 2nd Half of All A Final

For a half Saturday, it looked like the Livingston Central Lady Cardinals just might pull off the upset and knock off the Crittenden County Lady Rockets in the championship game of the Girls’ 2nd Region All A Classic. For a half. Then, the Lady Rockets’ defense had something to say about the matter.

Crittenden County used a 15-2 run in third quarter to overcome a four-point halftime deficit and roll on to a 50-32 win over Livingston Central and earn their second trip to Richmond in the last three years. The Lady Rocket defense limited the Lady Cardinals to just seven second half points, while their offense put 29 on the board.

Early on, the Lady Cardinals gave the Lady Rockets all they could handle. Behind the play of Emersyn Ramage, Livingston Central led 12-9 after the opening quarter. Ramage scored six of the Lady Cardinal points in the quarter. Taylor Guess kept the Lady Rockets close, scoring seven in the first eight minutes.

After being shut out in the opening quarter, Livingston’s Victoria Joiner ramped up in the second quarter, scoring ten points as the Lady Rockets took a 25-21 lead into the locker room at the break.

Then, the bottom fell out for Livingston Central, Taylor Guess heated back up for Crittenden County and the Lady Rocket defense simply gave up nothing over the final 16 minutes. Crittenden County would lead 36-27 after three and then pull away over the final eight minutes of the game to take the 18 point win.

Taylor Guess finished the afternoon with 21 points. Natalie Boone was the only other Lady Rocket to hit double figures with 10.

Livingston Central was led by Victoria Joiner with 11, only one coming in the second half. Aubrey Leahy added seven points.

The Lady Rockets improve to 13-3 with the win. They advance on to the All A Classic state tournament in Richmond, where they will face 5th Region champion Bethlehem in the final game of the opening round of the girls’ tournament, Wednesday, January 25, at 9:30pm in McBrayer Arena.

This will mark the Lady Rockets 8th trip to the All A state tournament. They have lost five times in the opening round, once in the quarterfinals, and once in the semifinals.
