Hoptown Picks Up First District Win at Fort Campbell

Hopkinsville picked up its first district win of the girls’ basketball season Monday and snapped a six-game losing streak in the process. Hoptown’s 52-2 win at Fort Campbell was its 37th straight in the series dating back to 2005.

Both teams look considerably different from the start of the year. Fort Campbell played Monday without three of its six leading scorers. Hopkinsville also played without two of its leading scorers with Faith Dansbury lost for the season with a knee injury.

Hopkinsville jumped out to a 40-0 lead by halftime with the second half played with shortened quarters. Ariana McDaniel ended the Hoptown run with a third quarter free throw for the Lady Falcons.

Taria Sharber scored 14 points and added six rebounds for Hoptown. Kahtahvia Fleming added 12 points as Hoptown shot 24-of-58 for the game.

Hopkinsville will host Clarksville Northeast Saturday. They can wrap up the No. 2 seed in the district on Feb. 1 with a win over University Heights Academy.

Fort Campbell will host Heritage Christian Academy Thursday.
