On a team full of up-and-coming youngsters, it was the seasoned veteran that showed that way for Lyon County in its district win over Trigg County Friday.
Ella Defew, the only senior on the Lady Lyon roster, scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to help Lyon County cruise to a 61-35 win over the Lady Wildcats. It was a complete 180 from last month’s game in Cadiz won by Trigg 51-49.
Defew picked up the scoring slack in the first half when starters Piper Cotham and Trinity Taylor went to the bench with two fouls. She hit 9-of-18 shots and added seven offensive rebounds and four steals to her stat sheet.
After Trigg opened the scoring with a free throw, Lyon County answered with 14 straight points and never let the Lady Wildcats get closer than 12 points the rest of the way.
Trigg was hampered by 21 turnovers that led to 23 Lyon points. The Lady Wildcats also had several chances to cut into the Lady Lyon lead in the first half but missed three consecutive front ends of the bonus that kept them from chipping into the Lyon lead.
Trigg was 10-of-25 at the line for the game.
Joining Defew in double figures was Lexi Holland who continually attacked the basket to the tune of 14 points and was a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line.
Trigg County got 14 points and 12 rebounds from Kara Hyde and 10 points from Olivia Noffsinger.
Lyon County will play at Christian Fellowship Saturday while Trigg County will host Hopkinsville Tuesday.
