Make it a season sweep for the Lady Patriots from Allen County-Scottsville. The Lady Patriots used back-to-back-to-back threes to ignite a 13-0 first-half run and turned that into a 70-58 win over the Todd County Central Lady Rebels Monday night in Elkton. ACS had won the matchup between the two teams back on December 22 in Scottsville by a score of 64-55.

The early going was closely contested with the score being tied at 2-2, 4-4, and 6-6. The Lady Patriots were able to get a bit of a lead from that point as they were able to take Alexis Taylor somewhat out of the game on the Todd Central offensive end of the court with a 2-3 zone. With a late first-quarter three-pointer, the Lady Patriots were able to take an 18-13 lead.

That three-pointer sparked a run for ACS as the second quarter got rolling. Two more threes to open the second, followed by a pair of free throws and a basket in the lane, and suddenly what had been a two-point game at 15-13 was now a 15-point Lady Patriot lead at 28-13.

Jayleigh Steenbergen, Aubrie Naiser, and Avery Morris knocked down the threes that ignited the run.

The lead would reach as many as 18 points at 38-20 and just about the time the Lady Rebels looked to be in very deep water, they made a move to close out the half. While ACS was still able to contain Taylor, Abby Williams and Jamya Kay sparked a late spurt for the Lady Rebels that saw them score the final seven points of the half to cut the lead to 38-27 going into the break.

One key to the late first-half run was that the Lady Rebels were able to start finding some seams in the Lady Patriot zone defense.

With the ACS zone taking her out of the main offensive flow, the Lady Rebels’ Alexis Taylor took to the boards to find scoring opportunities as the second half got underway. Her effort on the glass, along with scoring from Abby Williams would allow Todd Central to close to within nine points on a couple of occasions in the third quarter, at 41-32 and again at 48-39, but each time the Lady Patriots had an answer. Those answers came in the form of Avery Morris and Jaylee Covington.

That duo combined to score 13 points in the third as ACS took a 53-39 lead into the final quarter.

The Lady Patriots then settled the matter for good with a 7-1 spurt to open the final quarter that gave them a 20-point lead at 60-40. From there it became a matter of playing it out to the end. ACS would pull most of their starters late in the fourth, only to see them have to re-enter the game as the Lady Rebels closed to within 11 with just over a minute to go.

Todd Central was paced by Jamya Kay, who finished with 18 points. Abby Williams added 17 while Alexis Taylor had 13 for the Lady Rebels.

The Lady Patriots were led by Avery Morris with 31 points, which included 9 of 9 from the free throw line. Aubrie Naiser chipped in with 13 points. Jaylee Covington also hit double-digits with 11.

The loss drops the Lady Rebels to 11-8 on the season. They are set to return to action Friday in a home district contest against Franklin-Simpson.
