The three-point shot can generally do a couple of things when a team gets hot from behind the arc. One, it can bring a team from behind and get them back in the ballgame. Or, it can turn a close game into a big lead in a hurry. For the Union County Bravettes Tuesday night, it was the latter.

Union County found its stroke from behind the three-point line in the second quarter of its game at Christian County and turned an early deficit into a big lead in just about for minutes. That would generate enough momentum for the Bravettes to roll on to a 65-42 win over the Lady Colonels.

Christian County actually had the start it wanted in the game. The Lady Colonels, led by the play of Sarah Harris and Anaysia Bagwell, bolted out of the gate to a 7-0 lead. To the Bravettes’ credit, they did not panic at the quick start for Christian County and got down to work at chipping away at the early lead.

Trailing 9-2, the Bravettes went on an 11-4 run to even things up at 13-13. In a preview of what was soon to come, two of the baskets during that spurt came from behind the arc. Christian County would score late in the quarter to take a 15-13 lead after one.

Then the bottom fell out for the Lady Colonels. After Union County scored to tie the game at 15-15, the long-range attack commenced and there was nowhere to find respite for Christian County. Back-to-back-to-back threes, and suddenly the Union County lead was 24-15. The Bravettes would knock down three more long shots in the quarter, and as they left the court at halftime, they were holding a 41-21 lead.

Union County drilled six three-point shots in the quarter giving them eight for the first half. Lillian Goodloe had three, Katelyn Hagan two, Madison Morris two, and Paige Stewart one.

The long-range bombing recommenced as the second half got underway. With Union County holding a 47-22 lead, the Bravettes finished the third quarter on a 14-4 run to extend the lead out to 61-26. Four of the baskets in the run came from behind the three-point line.

With the running clock in play, the final quarter played out quickly. Christian County’s defense limited Union County to just one basket and four points in the final quarter, but the hole was simply too deep.

Lazarie Daniel was the top scorer in the game for Christian County with 15 points. Anaysia Bagwell also reached double figures with 12.

Madison Morris was one of three Bravettes to hit double-digits with 16. Katelyn Hagan added 14, while Lillian Goodloe finished with 12 points.

The Bravettes ended the night with 12 made 3-pointers. Hagan and Goodloe had four treys each.

The loss drops Christian County to 8-12 on the year. The Lady Colonels are back in action for their final regular season home game Thursday when they host the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons.
