Falcons Place 6th at 1A State Dual Championships

Fort Campbell split four matches while bringing home a sixth-place finish in the KYWCA 1A State Dual Championships Saturday at Bardstown.

The Falcons opened pool play by rolling past West Carter 60-18. But Fort Campbell then fell to LaRue County 53-27 to finish up pool play. (Only the top team in each pool could finish in the top four in the final standings.)

The Falcons came back to defeat Covington Holmes 60-24 in their next match.

That put Fort Campbell in the fifth-place match against former 1st Region school Caldwell County.
But the Tigers won that match 45-36, leaving the Falcons sixth out of 12 teams in the state field.

Fort Campbell wrestlers claimed seven pins in the win over West Carter. John Montalvo at 144 pounds, Kurt Corrigan at 150, Keshawn Dixon at 165, Jeremy Galloway at 285, Jeffery Perry at 113, Dylan Linnemeier at 126 and Maliq Crosby at 132 all won by pin in the opening match.

The Falcons had two pins in the setback to LaRue. Keshawn Dixon won by pin while T.J. Dixon at 190 also pinned his opponent. Corrigan won by 9-4 decision.

Fort Campbell had six pins while defeating Holmes. Keshawn Dixon, Malik Hale-Huerta at 215, Perry, Eithan Cassell at 120, Crosby, Robert Cameron at 144 and Corrigan all picked up pins.

Against Caldwell, Fort Campbell wrestlers won three matches by pin — Adam Harrington at 165, Galloway and Montalvo.

Union County won the small-school state dual tournament for the 17th straight time.

Walton Verona was runner-up, with LaRue third and Martin County fourth.

The state duals are sponsored by the Kentucky Wrestling Coaches Association.
