The last time the Todd County Central boys’ basketball team tasted victory against Franklin-Simpson coincided with the Rebels’ last 13th-District title in the 2017-18 season.  Todd Central was a 63-51 winner in that contest, but a 74-62 loss to the Wildcats on Friday marks the 14th-straight Rebels’ defeat in the series.

Todd Central rode hot shooting from behind the arc to an early lead, knocking down five three-pointers for a seven-point cushion after the first quarter.  Preston Rager and Hayden Strader each connected on a pair of threes for the Rebels.

Jamison Glass scored nine points in the second, including four straight to give Todd Central a seven-point edge  Rager followed with a three-pointer with :17 left in the half, but a technical foul gave Franklin-Simpson a pair of free throws, and Gavin Dickerson beat the buzzer with a corner three to cut the Rebel lead to five at the half.

DeMarus Hogan had a big third quarter for the Wildcats, scoring 11 points and draining a three-pointer to trim the margin to a basket.  Jalen Briscoe posted nine points in the frame, including a triple to tie the game at 44-44.

However, Rager added ten points, including two more makes from behind the arc, and Devin Schutt connected on a corner three for a 53-48 Todd Central lead with a quarter to play.

Rager was forced to the bench with his fourth foul early in the fourth with the Rebels up six, and things unravelled from there.  When he returned to the floor less than three minutes later, Todd Central trailed 57-55 and wouldn’t lead again.

A corner three-pointer by Trayvon Foster trimmed the Franklin advantage to three with two minutes left, but Briscoe scored nine points the rest of the way, including seven of ten at the free-throw line, to seal the victory.

Briscoe finished with a game-high 30 points, and Hogan followed with 25.

Rager scored 20, Glass had 16, and Foster reached double figures with ten.

The loss leaves the Rebels at 13-9 on the season, 1-2 in district play.  They’ll look to bounce back on Saturday when Paducah Tilghman visits Elkton.
