Hopkinsville and Christian County Bowlers Compete in First Regional Tournament

The first-ever high school bowling season for the teams at Hopkinsville High School and Christian County High School came to a conclusion Saturday. Bowlers traveled to Paducah to compete in the 1st Region bowling tournament, which played out over two days of competition on Friday and Saturday.

While none of the bowlers from the two programs qualified for the state bowling tournament, there was significant progress made by the two teams over the course of their season.

The individual competition took place Friday. In the boys’ competition, Hopkinsville’s Jarod Pogue had the best finish of the two teams, placing 16th in the region.

Christian County’s boys’ scores were:

Aiden Lewis – Christian 162 146 157 – 465
Jacob Walden – Christian 92 126 167 – 385
Jerry Foster – Christian 110 133 135 – 378
Peyton Hilton – Christian 127 130 114 – 371

In the girls’ individual competition on Friday, Hopkinsville’s Ruby Duskey had the best finish from the two rookie progams. Duskey rolled a 426, which put her in 23rd place.

Christian County girls’ scores were:

Jasmine Beckwith – Christian 124 91 142 – 357
Kayelyn Dermond – Christian 89 95 121 – 305
Julia Munoz – Christian 103 84 95 – 282

In Saturday’s boys’ team competition, the Colonels were seeded 12th and had an opening match against Graves County. The Eagles would claim the win in the match 3-0.

Hopkinsville had to compete against Metcalfe County in a ‘roll-off’ to see who would be the 16th seed. Hopkinsville won the match against Metcalfe County to get into the 16-team bracket. The Tigers would then fall to McCracken County. The Tigers won the first game, but then lost the next three to the Mustangs.

For the girls’ team competition, the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers were seeded #13 and lost to McCracken County in the first match of bracket play.

The Christian County Lady Colonels were seeded #14 and lost to Apollo.
