Hopkins County Central’s girls are still unbeaten in 7th District play after pulling away in the second half to defeat Caldwell County 58-37 Monday night in Mortons Gap.
The Lady Storm will host Madisonville-North Hopkins on Thursday with the No. 1 seed for the district tournament on the line.
Hopkins Central (17-7 overall, 5-0 district) used an 11-0 run in the first half to turn an 11-11 deadlock into a 22-11 advantage.
Down 25-15 at halftime, Caldwell (6-17, 2-4) got as close as five points early in the third period.
But Hopkins Central seized the momentum back, and went on to build a 45-28 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Mercy Sutton led a balanced Lady Storm scoring attack with 15 points. Emile Jones had 13, Brooklyn Clark 11 and Lillie Whitaker-Greer had 10.
For Caldwell, Med Thomas hit four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points. A.J. Hollowell added 10 points.
The Lady Tigers continue a busy schedule with a trip to Trigg County on Tuesday for a girls and boys doubleheader.
Hopkins Central’s teams host Livingston Central on Tuesday for a girls/boys twinbill.
The Lady Storm has won five straight and six of the last seven against Caldwell and now leads the all-time series 34-32.
Hopkins Central won 65-44 when the teams met earlier this month in Princeton.
