For the second time this season, Trigg County used a fast start to beat Livingston Central. By virtue of the Wildcats’ 85-61 win Monday, Trigg clinched the No. 3 seed in the district tournament.
In December, Trigg scored the first 22 points of the game en route to a 78-53 win in Smithland. On Monday, a 14-0 start helped by four 3-pointers eventually turned into Trigg’s highest point total since a 91-50 win over Clarksville Christian on Dec. 2.
Trigg hit five 3-pointers in the first quarter, building a 23-13 lead. The 3-pointers were tougher to come by in the second quarter for Trigg as Livingston chipped away and got within 39-30 by halftime.
The Cardinals were able to get as close as three points at 41-38 on two free throws by Will Orr.
However, Trigg kicked it back into gear and used a 20-4 run to extend its lead to 20 points and Livingston didn’t get closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
The Wildcats hit 13-of-32 from 3-point range and shot 47-percent from the field. Trigg also scored 22 points off 16 Livingston turnovers.
Landon Stewart hit five 3-pointers and finished with 23 points to pace five Wildcats in double figures. Luke Washer added 19 points and eight rebounds, and Jhaden Vaughn had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Mason Hargrove scored 12 points for the Cardinals while Orr and Logan Wring each scored 11 points.
