Aden Holloway knew Prolific Prep (California) was coming to Kentucky to play two games last weekend at Mercer County High School in Harrodsburg. What the Auburn signee did not know was that he was going to be making trips to the University of Kentucky.

His team practiced at the UK practice facility on Saturday morning and then returned to watch Kentucky beat Florida Saturday night after winning its game at Mercer County.

“It was a little weird. I didn’t know we were going there,” Holloway, a point guard who made the McDonald’s All-American Game, said.  “I tried to view it as a college game day like we were going for a shoot-around or were getting prepared to play at Kentucky. That’s the way I looked at it.”

He said it was even crazier to go back and watch Kentucky — a team he will be playing against next year for coach Bruce Pearl — beat Florida.

“It was a good experience with some really high level basketball. but I am a War Eagle at heart. That doesn’t change.”

The 6-1 point guard is averaging 19 points, 5.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. He has four other teammates who have signed Division I scholarships and three teammates in the 6-10 range. Prolific is ranked as a top five team nationally.

Holloway said Kentucky never really reached out to him even though he is a McDonald’s All-American. However, he understood why he did not hear from UK.

“It didn’t really surprise me because of Rob (Dillingham) going there and their stacked recruiting class. I kind of understood that one and could not be mad about that,” he said.

“But it’s going to be fun to play against him and Kentucky. It will be a blessing to play against my friend (Dillingham) at that high level and for both of us to get to experience that will be great. We are going to compete but it’s still a blessing for us both,” Holloway said.
