Hopkinsville High School and the running community are mourning coach Pablo Sanchez’s loss, who passed away over the weekend. Tributes on social media were posted on Sunday morning.

Sanchez served as the cross country and track and field coach for Hopkinsville High in 2022 after serving as the Hoptown cross country coach for the past five years.

He coached several All-State runners at Hopkinsville and saw two – Chase Atkins and Allison Wood – continue to run cross country in college.

His running experience was extensive, but it was his ability to collaborate with other programs in Christian County that made him well-liked and respected among his peers.

Sanchez was responsible for bringing a large cross country meet back to Hopkinsville and Christian County with the annual King and Queen of the West. He also managed invitational track and field meets each year at the Stadium of Champions.

Sanchez ran in college for Columbus State University and the University of Georgia.

He led the running program at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas from 2004-07 with other coaching stops at Murray State University, Nicholls State University, Converse College, Brevard College, and the University of Southern Mississippi

Sanchez coached four Olympians, 10 All-Americans, 28 conference champions, 50 all-conference performers, and 28 national qualifiers in track & field.
