Hoptown’s Cannon Advances to Wrestling State First Round

Juan Cannon will be headed to wrestling state first round after a fourth place finish at Saturday’s Region I Tournament at Christian County.

Cannon won his first match of the day in the 113-pound class before falling to Christian County’s Jari Campbell in the semifinals. After a consolation win, he lost to Caldwell County’s Andre Carter in the third place match.

Xavion Wallace finished in fifth place in the 157-pound class and will be an alternate for state first round. Wallace defeated Henderson Ciounty’s Vinson Embry by fall in the fifth place match.

The KHSAA is using the state first round format for the third straight year. The top eight finishers in each weight class at the state first round will advance to a sixteen-person bracket for the state wrestling championships at George Rogers Clark High School on Feb. 24-25.
