Caldwell’s Girls Can’t Keep Pace With Madisonville in 7th District Semifinal

Caldwell County tried to slow the game down against Madisonville-North Hopkins — and it worked, but just for a little while

Ultimately, the Lady Tigers could not keep pace offensively with Madisonville and dropped a 72-43 decision in the 7th District semifinals Monday night in Mortons Gap.

Caldwell sees its season end at 9-21.

Madisonville (19-10) advances to face Hopkins County Central (22-8) in Thursday’s 6 p.m. championship game. The Lady Storm defeated Dawson Springs 65-40 in the semifinal round.

Caldwell got early 3-pointers from Tink Clark and Presley McKinney to hold leads of 3-0 and 6-3 while playing at a deliberate style.

However, Madisonville closed the first period with 11 straight points to go up 14-6. That was part of a 25-1 run that eventually pushed the Lady Maroon lead to 28-7.

Madisonville led 32-11 at halftime, and Caldwell got no closer than 16 points in the second half.

Amari Lovan led all scorers with 21 points for the Lady Maroons. Kailey Barber had 15 points and Bryanne Johnson added 10 for Madisonville.

Caldwell got 14 points from eighth grader Med Thomas. Senior Presley McKinney added 12.

Madisonville has taken 13 straight from Caldwell going back to the 2018 district tournament.
