One of the first times I talked to Blair Green when she was a Harlan County basketball standout the conversation was more about some community projects she was involved in, including one to help provide Christmas gifts for local children, than her basketball career.

That’s why it’s  no surprise she has been named to the 2022-23 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team.

The Kentucky fifth-year senior has over 80 hours of community service during her time at Kentucky. That includes packing food for God’s Pantry, writing Valentine’s Day cards for a nursing home, participating in Alzheimer’s fund-raisers and leading children through the Mamba and Mambacita Skills Academy.

Green and teammates Emma King and Cassidy Rowe had a “606 Camp” that raised more than $3,000  for eastern Kentucky floor relief. She has washed children’s feet and fitted them for new shoes with Samaritan’s Feet International.

Green helped deep clean the homeless shelter at the Lexington Hope Center after a three-hour practice earlier this season. She helped lead the team through an assembly line in order to clean both sides of almost a hundred mattress pads. She helped scrub two hallways worth of windows, walls and floors.

She missed last season with a ruptured Achilles but has never lost her focus academically. She already has degrees in both kinesiology and human communications and is working on a high-performance training certificate.

Green has been on the SEC Academic Honor Roll each year at UK.

She has already played in a school-record 116 games going into tonight’s matchup at Texas A&M. She has 724 career points and 240 career rebounds.

She is averaging 8.2 points per game and 2.5 rebounds per game this season.
