The Henderson County Lady Colonels used 13 three-pointers to double up Christian County 66-33 in Saturday’s 2nd-Region semifinals at Union County. Henderson improved to 25-4 with its eleventh win in a row and be shooting for the program’s fifth-straight region title on Sunday against Crittenden County.
Brooklyn Gibson got Henderson off to a quick start with nine points, and they led 15-5 after a three-pointer by Savannah Lacer.
Christian County closed to within six after a layup by Anaysia Bagwell with just over six minutes left in the second quarter, but Shalyn Sprinkles knocked down her second three-pointer of the frame to jumpstart an 11-2 run. Bagwell closed the half with a pair of free throws, but Henderson led 29-16 at the break.
Graci Risley drilled two threes in the third for Henderson, Sparkles connected on two in a row, and Mallorie Veal was fouled behind the arc and hit all three free throws for a 48-21 advantage with less than a minute to play in the frame.
Christian County’s Anaysia Bagwell scored six of her team-high 14 points in the fourth, but the deficit reached 27 on Sprinkles’ fifth three-pointer of the night, and Henderson triggered a running clock on an Adalyn Gish jumper with 3:30 left.
After advancing to the region semifinals for the first time since the 2018-19 season, Christian County’s campaign ends with a record of 16-14. The loss also ends a six-game winning streak for the Lady Colonels.
Evanna McGregor ended her career with 12 points to join Bagwell in double figures.
Risley overcame an early injury to score 17 for Henderson, followed by Sprinkles with 16. They combined for 10 of the team’s 13 makes from behind the arc.
