Heritage Christian Academy won its second KCAA boys’ state basketball title Saturday with a 53-52 win over Galilean. While the state championship trophy made the trip back to Hopkinsville, one thing did not — Coach Matt McGowan’s beard.
McGowan, who has coached at HCA since 2017-18, has done so with a full beard that had remained intact until Saturday. The Warrior coach had bet his team before the 2021-22 season that if HCA won the state title, the beard would come off.
After Heritage won Saturday, the clippers came out in the locker room and the players made sure their coach paid off on his bet.
