The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. -Albert Einstein.

Kentucky basketball isn’t insane, but their wildly inconsistent play could very well cause their fans to go nuts. The Wildcats lost to the Vanderbilt Commodores, 80-73, for the second time in less than 10 days.

Like Kentucky, Vanderbilt battled key injuries in both games. Unlike Kentucky, Vanderbilt had to play on the road in the first game and a back-to-back in the second game. The Commodores also had the less-talented team and not much size inside.

Everything pointed in Kentucky’s favor to win both matchups, but the same critical mistakes that plagued Kentucky all season were the root of both losses for the Wildcats.

Kentucky missed so many missed free throws, shot a terribly low three-point percentage, saw Oscar Tshiebwe’s frustrations getting the best of him and John Calipari appeared lost on the sideline. There are so many things this Kentucky team does wrong, yet they can put together impressive wins over Auburn and Arkansas just seven days apart.

It’s difficult to make much sense of how good or bad the Wildcats really are, but time to be great is running out as the season’s end draws even closer. Kentucky’s early exit from the SEC Tournament will allow for a couple of days to work out their kinks, but Calipari and his staff have had all season to do that.

Expecting much change by next week’s NCAA Tournament may just be an insane thought. Because what reason has Kentucky given anyone to truly believe that?

So, if you’re expecting a deep run by Kentucky, prepare yourself to be disappointed. The Wildcats may win a game or two in the Big Dance, but haven’t shown any potential to cut down the nets in Houston.

  1. Calipari gets outcoached AGAIN!!! Sometimes you have to wonder if he loses on purpose to help other coaches keep their jobs. Rick Barnes owned Calipari for a few years, then Bruce Pearl, now Jerry Stackhouse. 14 years and 1 national title is long enough. If Calipari is any kind of a man, he will retire or go to another school. Too many people in BBN want him gone! Barnhart needs to go with him.
