Errors Costly as Colonels Suffer Setback at South Warren

Christian County suffered its first loss of the young baseball season on Wednesday, falling at South Warren 9-4.

The Colonels were outhit just 7-6 in the contest, but five errors sealed Christian County’s fate.

South Warren (2-0) never trailed after putting up two runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Christian (2-1) tied things in the top of the second when Jacob Jenkins tripled home two runs.

But the homestanding Spartans countered with four runs in the bottom of the frame and the Colonels could not recover.

Christian got its final two runs in the top of the sixth inning when Aiden Lewis delivered a two-run double with two outs.

Ethan Reynolds was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in for South Warren. Ty Croghan was 2-for-3 and scored three times.

Christian was led at the plate by Hayden Hunt, who went 2-for-3 with a double.

Sophomore Mikey Coradini, the second of three South Warren hurlers, was the winning pitcher. He worked 3.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and a pair of walks.

Freshman Gage Montes suffered the setback on the mound for the Colonels. He went the first five innings, giving up six base hits. But just three of the seven runs he allowed were earned. Montes struck out five and walked three.

Christian is scheduled to host a pair of games on Saturday, hosting both Paducah Tilghman and Owensboro Apollo.
