For the first time in six seasons, the Trigg County baseball team moved to 2-0  after overcoming a slow start on Thursday to dispatch visiting Russellville 18-3 in four innings.  The Wildcats have only needed nine frames to earn the two victories while averaging 16 runs per game.

However, Russellville got on top early with three runs in the 1st inning, equaling the run total from their season-opening loss to Edmonson County.

The Panthers took advantage of two Trigg errors and a hit by pitch to load the bases and pushed three runs across on singles by Lyndon Edmonds-Wilson and Diego Vera.

But that would be all Russellville would get off Wildcat pitcher Brayden Jones.   Jones only allowed one more hit the rest of the way and finished with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Trailing by a run with the bases juiced and no outs in the 2nd, Trigg’s Slaton Carter singled to score a pair and put the Wildcats in front for good.  Aidon Butts added an RBI single, and Austin Stewart and Slaton each doubled in two runs for a 13-3 Wildcat advantage.

Trigg County put Russellville out of its misery in the 4th, highlighted by Butts’ two-run double to center field.

Butts finished three for four with four RBI, followed by Carter with two hits and four runs driven in.  Stewart had two RBI, and five other Wildcats had one.

Noah Harris took the loss for 0-2 Russellville, lasting only an inning while giving up five earned runs with four walks and a strikeout.

Trigg will hit the road on Friday to face winless Graves County before hosting Webster County and Fort Campbell at the Recreation Complex on Saturday.
