After a 2-0 start to the season, the Christian County Colonels dropped their third straight game with a 5-4 setback to visiting Apollo in the second half of a Saturday doubleheader.

The Colonels failed to push a run across in a loss to Paducah Tilghman earlier in the day and were scoreless through the first three frames before breaking through with three runs in the bottom of the 4th against the Eagles.

With two on and two outs, Aiden Lewis came through with an RBI single to get the Colonels on the board.  Gage Montes followed with a single to bring home Carter Sholar, and the third run came in on an error on the same play.

However, the Colonels’ lead was short-lived.  A pair of two-out walks in the top of the 5th set the stage for Apollo’s Easton Blandford to smack a home run over the center field fence.

The Eagles started the following frame with three singles to load the bases with no outs and tacked on two more runs on a wild pitch and a fly ball to right field.

Down to their last out, the Colonels cut the margin in half on Carter Sholar’s RBI single, but with a runner on second, a ground out ended the game.

Aiden Lewis took the loss on the mound, surrendering five earned runs on six hits with four walks and six strikeouts.  Hayden Hunt came on and recorded a strikeout in a scoreless 7th.

Will Strode went five and two-thirds to earn the win for the Eagles, giving up three runs, two earned, on four hits with three walks and nine strikeouts.

The Colonels will look to get back on track with a trip to Fort Campbell on Monday before heading to Union County on Tuesday.
