Herrera Jump Starts Lady Rebel Offense Past Hoptown

After scoring just two runs in a pair of Saturday losses, Karli Herrera provided the jump-start Monday the Todd County Lady Rebels offense needed.

The senior homered on the game’s fourth pitch and was a triple shy of the cycle to help Todd Central beat Hopkinsville 16-3 at Tiger Field.

Herrera’s home run was part of a three-run first inning for the Lady Rebels. She added a double in the second inning, and singles in the fourth and fifth inning. Herrera’s four-hit, four-run performance at the top of the lineup was just what the Lady Rebels needed.

NaomiGammon, Abby McPherson, and Averie Luckinbill each had two hits as part of the 14-hit Lady Rebel effort.

The Lady Rebels scored six times in the second inning, highlighted by Addison Woodall’s 2-run double to the left field fence. Dakotah Gammon added a two-run single for a 9-0 advantage.

Karli Herrera smacked the fourth pitch of the game over the left field fence.

Naomi Gammon plated two runs with a single in the fourth inning with McPherson adding a two-run double four pitches later. McPherson finished 2-for-3 with three RBI.

She also got the job done in the circle, allowing no runs and one hit over four innings. She struck out 11 and walked just one.

Shaniya Straight broke up McPherson’s no-hit bid with two outs in the fourth inning on a hard single down the third base line.

Abigail Straight scored Hopkinsville’s first run in the fifth inning off a passed ball. Daijha Owen Morand laced a two-run triple to right field to finish out the scoring for Hopkinsville.

Hopkinsville fell to 1-3 and will play at Clarksville Northeast Tuesday.

Todd County Central improved to 2-2 host Franklin-Simpson in a 13th District battle.

Abby McPherson allowed one hit over four innings and struck out 11.
