Muhlenberg County Upends Lady Lyons 8-5

The Muhlenberg County Lady Mustangs broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning and rapped out a total of 17 hits as they took an 8-5 win over the Lyon County Lady Lyons Monday evening at Lee S. Jones Park.

Lyon County’s Lilly Perry and Muhlenberg County’s Ava Carver were engaged in a scoreless pitchers duel for the first three innings of the contest. The Lady Mustangs had six hits in the first three innings but were not able to score a run, while the Lady Lyons had two hits over the same time span.

The Lady Mustangs broke through in the 4th on back-to-back RBI singles to go up 2-0. Muhlenberg County added two more in the top of the 5th to go up 4-0.

Lyon County got two of the runs back in the bottom half of the inning. The big hit in the inning was an RBI single from Lauren Davis.

Muhlenberg County broke the game open with four runs in the sixth, three of them coming on a home run from Abry Carver.

The Lady Lyons rallied to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh, two of the runs coming on an RBI single from Courtney Collins. But that would be the end of the rally, as Muhlenberg County held on for the three-run win.

Lauren Davis was 2-4 for the Lady Lyons with an RBI and a run scored. Courtney Collins was 1-4 with two RBIs. Olivia Moore went 2-3 with a double.

Lilly Perry took the loss in the circle. Perry gave up eight runs, seven of them earned, striking out two and walking four.

Lyon County (0-3) gets back to action Tuesday on the road at Marshall County.
