After his team lost in the state tournament, North Laurel guard Reed Sheppard took a few days off “just to relax and calm down a little bit.” However, he didn’t have time to rest for long.

Sheppard is now in Houston to play in Tuesday night’s McDonald’s All-American Game on ESPN.

“I am super thrilled about that,” said Sheppard on WPBK-FM Thursday morning. “I started workouts back after taking a few days off and now I have about a week at McDonald’s.”

Sheppard will play on the West team with Arkansas signee Baye Fall, Texas signee Ron Holland and Bronny James, the son of NBA star LeBron James who will wear No. 23 — his father’s number — in the game.

The East team will include Kentucky signees DJ Wagner, Aaron Bradshaw and Justin Edwards along with Auburn signee Aden Holloway.

“It will be really good being up there and spending time with my future teammates and also all the other McDonald’s All-Americans,” Sheppard said. “This will give me a chance to get to know them.

“It’s more special that a couple of my teammates are going to be there. This way I can start building a relationship with them faster before we get on campus.

“I have always dreamed of playing in this game. It’s just an incredible honor to be part of this game and I know it’s going to be very, very special.”
