It was like the first-inning home run for the Christian County Lady Colonels was the wake-up call for the Marshall County Lady Marshals to get going, and get going they did. After the opening inning home run for Christian County, the Lady Marshals hung an 11-spot on the board in the second inning as they rolled to a 14-8 win Monday night at Christian County High School.

The Lady Colonels were able to keep Marshall County from getting to the 10-run rule and made a bit of a run late in the game but the hole was just a little too deep.

Things started promisingly for the Lady Colonels. They sat down the Lady Marshals in order in the top of the first. Then, in the bottom half of the inning, Karlie Crick blasted a two-run homer to left with one out that put Christian County up 2-0. At that point, the bottom fell out of the bucket, so to say.

The first 11 batters in the top of the second all reached base safely for Marshall County as the Lady Marshals pushed across 11 runs in the inning. Marshall County used a double, six singles, three walks, and a fielder’s choice to plate the runs and take an 11-2 lead.

Avery Adock drove in a run in the bottom half of the inning with a double to cut the lead to 11-3. But back came the Lady Marshals with three more in the top of the third to run the lead out to 14-3.

Christian County plated two more in the fourth and three in the sixth to cut the lead to 14-8, but there would be no big comeback on this night.

Avery Adcock had a big night for Christian County, going 3-3 with two doubles, an RBI, and three runs scored. Gracie Harned finished 3-4 with a double. Karlie Crick was 2-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and a run scored.

The Lady Colonels finished the game with ten hits.

Christian County (3-2) pitching struggled against the Lady Marshals’ lineup, giving up 14 runs on 15 hits. The Lady Colonels gave up seven walks in the game.

Chevelle Henson stepped up with a big night for the Lady Marshals, going 3-5 with 5 RBIs and two runs scored.
