McCracken County won its third game in a row and improved to 5-1 with a 14-2 five-inning victory over hosts Hopkinsville on Tuesday.

The Tigers dropped their second straight to slip to 2-4 with a visit from Todd County Central scheduled for Wednesday.  Hopkinsville has won the last seven meetings with the Rebels and will try to build some momentum ahead of a spring break trip to Fort Walton Beach, FL coming up next week.

McCracken jumped on the Tigers with five 1st-inning runs, highlighted by an RBI double by Miller Green and Eli James’ two-run home run.

Trailing 6-0 in the bottom of the 2nd, the Tigers scored a run on a hit by pitch but missed a big opportunity with a fielder’s choice ending the inning with the bases loaded.

The teams traded runs in the 3rd, but that would be the last time the Tigers crossed the plate.  The Mustangs erupted for seven runs in the top of the 5th, including RBI singles by Nate Lang, Zach Sims, Eli James, and Noah Nyberg.

Andrew Mayes took the loss for the Tigers, allowing seven runs, six earned, on six hits with four walks and a strikeout over two and a third innings.

Daniel Higdon earned the win for the Mustangs with two innings of work, allowing a single run with four walks and two strikeouts.

Griffin Cantrell and Nyberg each had three hits for McCracken, Green finished with four RBI, Sims had two hits and two runs driven in, and James was three for four with three RBI.
