Todd Central Names Russell Malone New Head Boys Basketball Coach

The Todd County Central Rebels lost former head coach John Stigall to new Clarksville school Kirkwood after the 2022-2023 season. Now, the Rebels have gone back to the Queen City for their new head coach.

School officials announced Wednesday morning that long-time basketball coach Russell Malone had been tabbed to be the new head boys’ basketball coach at the school. Malone had stepped down at West Creek High School following the just concluded basketball season after nine years on the job.

The Coyotes finished the 2022-2023 season with a record of 17-12. Malone’s teams were 103-143 during his time at West Creek.

Malone served as a boys and girls assistant at Franklin-Simpson from 1993-99. He then moved to Hopkinsville, where he was an assistant under head coach Terry Hayes, who was just announced as the new head coach at University Heights.

Malone left Hopkinsville in June of 2004 to take his first head coaching position at Warren East, where he stayed until spring of 2008.

He headed to Clarksville High in fall of 2008 to take over as boys’ head coach at Northwest. He also served as assistant athletic director.

Malone would return to Kentucky in fall of 2011 to begin a stay at Trigg County. He was an assistant coach in the school for two seasons before spending the 2013-2014 season as the girls’ head coach.

Malone follows John Stigall, who spent two seasons on the job in Elkton, leading the Rebels to a 42-21 record, including an All A regional title in 2022, and the school’s first ever All A state tournament win.
