Monty Todd wants to see how his Trigg County Lady Wildcat squad responds this season.

The first-year coach is watching how his young squad responds to errors. How they respond to bad innings and bad at-bats. Bad games and bad pitches.

One night after early errors caused them to fall behind early in a two-run loss to Russellville, Todd liked the response his Lady Wildcats provided in a 5-3 win over Webster County at the Complex.

The Lady Wildcats never trailed, leading 3-1 after two innings and adding two more runs in the fourth inning.

Trigg outhit Webster 10-7 and provided strong defense behind pitcher Tember Oliver. The eighth grader scattered seven hits and struck out five in improving her record to 5-3.

Emma West put Trigg ahead in the first inning with a two-run single.

Webster scored its first run in the second on an RBI groundout.

Rylee Hendricks was 2-for-4 with three runs knocked in. Her single in the second inning scored Kiley Slone. She added a two-run single in the fourth that extended Trigg’s lead to 5-1.

Hendricks also turned in a pair of solid defensive plays that helped keep the Lady Trojans off the scoreboard.

Webster (12-2) threatened in the seventh inning. Mylee Whitledge singled and Alyssa Cartwright followed with a double. Oliver settled down to coax an RBI groundout and flyout to end the game.

Veyda Grinols and Maddie Smith each had two hits for the Lady Wildcats, who snapped an eight-game losing streak to Webster dating back to 2014.

Seven Lady Trojans had hits with Cartwright and Chloe Papineau recording doubles.

Trigg County (8-9) will play a doubleheader at Hopkins County Central Thursday.
