After falling 8-3 to Madisonville-North Hopkins on Tuesday, Caldwell County returned the favor on Thursday.

A six-run third inning was the difference as the Tigers beat the Maroons 8-3 at Elmer Kelley Stadium in Madisonville, just two days after falling by that score at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton.

Cole Slone (2-1) struck out 10 in a complete-game pitching performance. He allowed two earned runs on three base hits and two walks.

The Maroons (4-14 overall, 3-1 district) scored twice in the home half of the first inning to grab the lead, but Caldwell (12-7, 1-1) never trailed after its big third inning rally.

Jamus Carneyhan and Ben Goodaker each had two-run singles during the six-run inning.

Carneyhan finished 2-for-3 with two runs batted in while Ari Wells was 2-for-3 with a triple. Carter Whittington was 2-for-4 and Luke Parker went 2-for-5.

Caldwell outhit Madisonville 9-3.

If the Tigers and Maroons were to finish with identical district records, the tiebreaker is fewest runs allowed in district games.

Caldwell is scheduled to visit Paducah St. Mary on Friday in an All A Classic sectional matchup.
