On a brisk, cool night at the Trigg County Recreation Complex, the Christian County Lady Colonel bats were anything but.

The Lady Colonels pounded out 20 hits and scored a season-high 20 runs to beat Trigg County 20-5 and remain unbeaten all-time against the Lady Wildcats.

Gracie Harned provided the big stick for the Lady Colonels with five hits – including two home runs – and nine RBI. The junior was a triple shy of the cycle. Eighth-grader Saniya Shields added four hits and three RBI as the first four batters in the CCHS lineup – Avery Adcock, Shields, Karlee Crick, and Harned – went 13-for-18 with 14 RBI and 13 runs scored.

The Lady Colonel scored three runs in the first. Adcock led off with a single and stole two bases ahead of a Shields single. Harned and Allie Houchins added RBI hits in the frame.

Christian County scored two more in the third and Harned’s grand slam punctuated a four-run fourth inning.

Kady Fuller gave Trigg an RBI single in the third, and the Lady Wildcats added a pair of runs in the fifth on a two-run single by Emma West.

Trigg appeared to be facing a six-run deficit heading into the home half of the sixth inning, but a two-base error with two outs opened the floodgates for the Lady Colonels who scored 11 unearned runs in the frame. Harned followed with a two-run homer to left field and Jada Turner later added a two-run double. Harned would add an RBI double in the same inning.

While the Christian County bats were getting most of the attention, seventh grader Alyssa Petterson got her first varsity start and picked up the win. She scattered eight hits and allowed three earned runs while striking out two.

West had two of Trigg’s hits, and Rylee Hendricks’ double was their only extra-base hit of the contest.

Christian County’s scoring output was its largest since a 20-3 win over Hopkinsville on May 8, 2021. Trigg County hadn’t allowed 20 runs in a game since a 22-0 loss to Livingston Central on April 8, 2013.

Trigg County has never beaten Christian County in softball, including an 0-6 record since the switch to fast pitch in 1995.

Christian County (11-8) will host Webster County Tuesday and Caldwell County Thursday.

Trigg County (10-10) has a key stretch of games coming up this week. They travel to Lyon County Tuesday, host Crittenden County Thursday and will travel to Livingston Central Friday.
