One night after tripling twice, Gavyn Nolan hit his first home run of the season to help the Todd County Central High School baseball team defeat Russellville 13-4 Tuesday. It was the second win over the Panthers in as many nights, giving the Rebels a 2-2 record in district action this season.

Nolan, who gave Todd Central a 2-0 lead in the first inning when his fly ball led to one of five Russellville errors, finished off a two-run, inside-the-park homer in the fifth to put RHS away for good. He finished 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, two walks, and a team-best three stolen bases.

Devin Schutt also had a strong encore performance against the Panthers. He hit a key two-run single in the fifth to finish with four RBI, one night after driving in three and scoring three in a 20-1 TCCHS win over Russellville.

The Panthers, who have now lost nine straight contests, didn’t score until JaCoveon Temple-Dickerson drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk in the top of the third. By that juncture, the Rebels had already built a 7-1 advantage. Landon Gunderson (1-1) went all six innings but allowed nine hits, eight earned runs, and four walks during the six innings.

Nolan (1-4) was the pitcher of record and earned his first victory of the year after allowing no hits and one run during 2 2/3 innings. Conner Wheeler threw the final 2 2/3 innings of the win, registering three strikeouts, no hits, no runs, and just one base on balls.

Grady Reding (2-for-2, two runs, two RBI) and Nate Reding (2-for-4, two runs, RBI) also had strong performances for Todd County Central, which has now won two straight after dropping five in a row. Nathan Ellis doubled and added a pair of runs.

The Rebels (10-11) will attempt to pull back to an even .500 on the season when they are at West Creek in Clarksville on Thursday evening. Todd is 2-0 against Tennessee opponents this season.
