The Caldwell County baseball team spent its second straight Monday at Paducah St. Mary — and avenged a loss to the Vikings last week.

Ari Wells scattered eight base hits in a complete-game pitching performance as the Tigers captured an 8-2 victory.

Last week, St. Mary turned back Caldwell 6-1 in an All A Classic sectional matchup.

In the rematch, Caldwell put up three runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed. A three-run sixth inning helped the Tigers put the game away.

Collin Whittington was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in for Caldwell while Wells went 2-for-3 and Ben Goodaker finished 2-for-4 with a double.

Jamus Carneyhan drove home the first two runs of the contest with a triple to center. He went 1-for-3 with three RBIs.

Cole Slone added a double and was 1-for-3 with an RBI as part of Caldwell’s 12-hit offensive attack.

St. Mary (12-6-1) scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to pull within 3-2, but Wells shut out the Vikings the rest of the way.

Caldwell (15-8) added single tallies in the second and third to go up 5-2 before adding three more runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Wells (3-2) struck out seven and walked three. Both runs allowed were earned.

Caldwell has won three straight games and four of its last five. The Tigers will go to Webster County on Tuesday.
