Two Christian County hurlers combined to limit Apollo to a single run Monday evening as the Colonels claimed a 2-1 win over the Eagles in Owensboro. The win was the fourth straight for Christian County and the eighth in the last ten games.

Gage Montes and Aiden Lewis combined to limit the Eagles to seven hits on the night. Montes got the start and went three innings, giving up no runs on three hits, striking out three, and walking none. Lewis got the win going four innings in relief, giving up one run on four hits, striking out four, and walking one.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth inning. After a single by Brylle Javier and a walk to Carter Sholar, pinch runner Eddie Davis, who had stolen second and third, scored on a passed ball to put Christian County up 1-0.

After an Apollo error and a pair of walks in the top of the sixth, Brylle Javier drove in Gage Montes with a sac fly to extend the lead to 2-0.

Apollo got a run back in the bottom of the sixth and had runners on the corners with two outs, but Aiden Lewis was able to induce a ground out to get the Colonels out of the inning. Lewis would then work around a leadoff single to close out the game in the bottom of the seventh.

The Colonels were limited to just two hits in the game. Carter Sholar and Brylle Javier had one hit each for Christian County.

During the Colonels’ current four-game winning streak, the Christian County pitching staff has given up just four runs and has a shutout win over Muhlenberg County.

Christian County improves to 15-10 on the year.
