Down 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning against Trigg County on Tuesday, Caldwell County’s girls got a two-run home run from Harper Holeman and went on to capture a 3-1 victory at Lady Tiger Field.

Pitchers ruled most of the game with Alexis Wood and Tember Oliver putting up matching zeroes through five innings.

Emma West singled home the first run of the game for Trigg County with two outs in the top of the sixth. That scored Rylee Hendricks, who had reached on an error to start the inning.

But the Lady Tigers battled back quickly.

Adley Lewis led off the bottom of the sixth with a line-drive single into center. One out later, Holeman hit a high blast over the fence in right-center to put Caldwell in front 2-1.

The Lady Tigers weren’t finished in the frame. A Brylee Butts walk was followed by a two-out double into the left-field corner by Wood. That allowed Butts to come all the way around from first base with Caldwell’s third run of the game.

That extra run was helpful in the top of the seventh when MaKenna Hendricks beat out an infield single to start the inning.

A liner to right field was the first out of the inning, but then Veyda Grinols hit a shot into right-center that seemed destined to get down for a base hit.

But centerfielder A.J. Hollowell covered a lot of ground and laid out to make a diving circus catch for the second out of the inning. That kept the potential tying run off base.

Wood got the next batter to hit a grounder to second to end the contest.

Caldwell improved to 13-9 while Trigg is now 11-12.

Each side had seven base hits.

Wood (11-7) allowed just the one unearned run for Caldwell while striking out three and walking none.

Oliver (7-6) struck out six and walked one while allowing three earned runs.

Offensively, Lewis and Presley McKinney were each 2-for-3 for Caldwell.

Oliver was 2-for-3 for Trigg with a triple.

Caldwell, which has won five of its last six games, will go to Graves County on Thursday.

Trigg will host Livingston Central for 5th District action on Wednesday.
