Logan County Takes 10-5 Win Over Hoptown

The Logan County Cougars took an early lead and never looked back Thursday evening as they took a 10-5 win over the Hopkinsville Tigers in Russellville. The win was the third in a row for the Cougars over the Tigers and the eighth in the last nine meetings.

Logan County jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Tigers cut into the lead in the top of the third when Lucas Kaetzel doubled to drive in Gavin Powell and make it a 3-1 game.

The Cougars took firm control of the game in the bottom of the fourth as they scored four more to run the lead out to 7-1. Two Hopkinsville errors to start the inning opened the door for the big rally.

The Tigers got two of the runs back in the top of the fifth on a wild pitch and a fielder’s choice to make it 7-3.

The Cougars responded with four hits and a walk to score three more runs in the bottom of the fifth as the lead grew to 10-3.

Hopkinsville scored two in the top of the sixth. Thomas Hallmark came across on a ground out and Andrew Mayes scored on a fielder’s choice to cut the lead to 10-5.

Gavin Powell went 2-3 for the Tigers with two runs scored. Thomas Hallmark ended up 2-4 with a double and a run scored. The Tigers finished the game scoring their five runs on seven hits. The Tigers were charged with three errors.

Hallmark took the loss on the mound. He started the game going 4 1/3 innings, striking out two and walking two.

The loss drops the Tigers to 9-16 on the season.
