Lady Lyons Drop Two and Tie One at Owensboro Catholic Classic

A tough trip to Owensboro Saturday for the Lyon County Lady Lyons. The Lady Lyons were at Jack Fisher Park for the annual Owensboro Catholic Classic. Lyon County finished their day 0-2-1 with losses Pulaski County and Breckinridge County, and a tie against Franklin-Simpson.

The first game for the Lady Lyons saw time limit end the game against Franklin-Simpson with the score tied at 3-3 after six innings. The Lady Lyons had scored a run in the top of the sixth to even things up.

An RBI single in the first from Courtney Collins out Lyon County up 1-0. The lead grew to 2-0 in the top of the fourth on an RBI single from Brenna Breitrick.

Fraklin-Simpson tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth and then took the lead at 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth on a double.

Lyon County strung together three straight singles to open the top of the 6th and tie the game at 3-3. Jenna Coursey hit the last of the three to score the run. Coursey led the Lady Lyons in the game, going 3-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Lilly Perry pitched all six innings, giving up three runs on eight hits, striking out eight and walking one.

The second game of the day saw Pulaski County break a scoreless tie with six runs in the top of the sixth and take a 6-0 win in six innings due to time limit. The Lady Maroons used four singles and a couple of Lyon County errors to score their six runs in the final inning. Five of the runs were scored after there were two outs.

Pulaski County pitcher Bella Ellis shut out the Lady Lyons on five hits. She struck out two and walked none.

Lauren Davis had three of Lyon County’s five hits in the game. Piper Cotham and Brenna Breitrick had the other two.

Destiny Cayce pitched all six innings for the Lady Lyons, giving up six runs, just three of them earned, on eight hits, striking out three and walking one.

The Lady Lyons wrapped up their day Saturday with a matchup against Breckinridge County. The Lady Tigers hit Lyon County with a 5-run first inning on their way to a 9-2 six-inning win.

After a ground out to open the game, the next seven batters reached base for Breckinridge County, two by walk and five by base hits as the Lady Tigers plated five runs. Breckinridge added a run in the top of the third on an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-0.

The Lady Tigers added three more runs in the top of the fourth to open up a 9-0 lead.

Lyon County got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Destiny Cayce grounded out to first scoring Courtney Collins to make it 9-1. The Lady Lyons would add another run in the bottom of the sixth.

Lauren Davis finished the game 2-3. Courtney Collins and Lilly Perry had the other hits for the Lady Lyons, who were outhit in the game 13 to 4. The Lady Lyons were also charged with three errors in the game.

With the days results, the Lady Lyons go to 6-17-1 on the year.
