Blanton’s School Record Leads Colonels at Area 1 Championships

Running the second heat of the 200-meter dash, Trey Blanton hoped to give Christian County a finish that would score some points ahead of the first heat runners.

He did that and more.

The Colonel senior blistered the McCracken County High School track in 22.21 seconds – breaking an 11-year-old school record at the Area 1 Championships Saturday.

Blanton finished third in the race and beat Devonte Nichols’ 2012 mark by .59 seconds. Blanton improved his own time in the event by 1.62 seconds.

Blanton was also part of two relay teams that produced its top season times.

RELAYS

The 800-meter relay team of Jayvion Hawkins, Dahzmeon Brown, Trey Blanton, and Jermaine Dove finished in second place just over three-quarters of a second behind McCracken County. Their time was 1:30.92 – fourth fastest in school history and the fastest since 2002.

The same team was just nipped at the finish line by Mayfield in the 400-meter relay in a time of 43.76 seconds – the second-fastest time in school history.

They ran the 1600-meter relay in 3:40.78 and finished in sixth place.

The 3200-meter relay team of Wyatt Fleming, Alex Hale, Hector Munoz, and Michael Webb finished in 7th place in 9:16.60.

FIELD EVENTS

Christopher McCarty was 12th in the shot put at 38 feet, 5 inches. Treshawn Crenshaw finished in 29th place with a personal best distance of 24-09.75.

McCarthy finished 7th in the discus throw with a heave of 121-05 while Crenshaw was 37th with a personal best distance of 59-08.

Cyrus Greenwade finished 8th in the long jump with a personal best of 18-03.50.

SPRINTS

Jayvion Hawkins finished in 8th place in the 100-meter dash with a personal best time of 11.44 seconds.

Dahzmeon Brown finished 7th in the 400 meters with a personal best run of 53.9 seconds.

MIDDLE DISTANCE

Michael Webb finished 12th in the 1600 meters and broke five minutes for the first time. His personal best time Saturday was 4:59.50. Aidan Knepper finished in 27th place at 6:09.50.

Hector Munoz finished 14th in the 800-meter run with a personal best time of 2:15.20, while Wyatt Fleming was 19th with a time of 2:17.97.

As a team, Christian County finished in 9th place with 33 points, tying them with Hopkinsville. They were three points ahead of 11th place Fort Campbell, and six points behind 8th place Henderson County.
